Adam Hallauer President & Design Director

Adam leads both the design team, and overall operations for Designs By Sundown. Over the past 23 years, Adam has enhanced and elevated the design, build, and maintenance teams at Designs by Sundown to new heights, creating one of the top landscape companies in Colorado. Adam is a proud graduate of Colorado State University, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Landscape Horticulture, specializing in design and construction. As a Colorado native, Adam endeavors for his team to create native, natural, and luxurious landscapes using best practices and industry leading materials.

Aaron Yoder Chief Operating Officer

Aaron Yoder Chief Operating Officer

Aaron came to Designs by Sundown with an account degree from CU Denver in 2006 and was hired as an entry level “Accounts Receivable Clerk”. Today, he spends the majority of his time problem solving, and bettering internal operations across the company. He has had 8 different positions here over the years, and has worked in every single division, making him an absolute expert in all things DBS. He has seen our industry change from general landscaping, to complete outdoor living, and enjoys the frustrating task of “taming Mother Nature”.

Brian is a Colorado Native, and has worn many different hats while working at Designs by Sundown. Growing up in the construction industry, he consistently remarks how he “grew up on the shovel”, emphasizing how his years of field knowledge and experience have helped to inform his role as a leader within our firm. Starting out as a construction foreman, Brian has spent the past 15 years climbing through our company, serving in various roles throughout the years. His industry knowledge, passion for teamwork and collaboration, and expertise in internal operations are second to none, making him the perfect Construction Director for our team.

Phil has always had a passion for numbers, and has spent the past 17 years using that passion to help Designs by Sundon make smart and strategic decisions. As the CFO, he has a knack for for turning data into actionable insights, and has been known to spend his weekends cooking with his family, or playing hockey with his friends.

Justin has been in the landscape industry since 2003, graduating from Delaware Valley University with a B.S. in Ornamental Horticulture & Environmental Design. He has spent the last few years overseeing Designs by Sundown’s maintenance client representatives and elevating the team to the next level. Drawing from his extensive industry expertise, Justin has emphasized client commitment and satisfaction through streamlined processes and procedures to transform our client representative team into the best in the landscape industry.

Rogelio Mendoza Maintenance Operations Manager

Rogelio (Roy) started at Designs by Sundown in 2003 as a laborer on a maintenance team. He has spent his many years with our company growing, changing, and enhancing our processes and procedures. He oversees all maintenance crews, ensures best practices are in use at all times, and strives to make sure everyone on our team is providing the DBS Experience to clients. Originally from Chihuahua, Mexico, Roy was raised in Denver, and is fluent in both Spanish and English, making it easy for him to communicate client needs to our crews. Roy has done a lot in his years at our company, and is truly an asset and cherished member of the team.

Leigh Hallauer Internal Maintenance Operations Manager

Leigh has been working for Designs by Sundown for 16 years, starting as a maintenance crew member, becoming a client representative, and eventually managing our maintenance operations. Her main goal is to make sure all maintenance crews are set up for success with property information, details on specific needs for each home, and ensuring client needs are met to the highest quality standards. Her industry knowledge, and ability to prioritize tasks makes her a great asset to the team.

Ben Harcey Services Director

Ben oversees the Specialty Services Division at Designs by Sundown, specializing in Irrigation, Pool and Pond maintenance, Plant Healthcare (PHC), and Outdoor Lighting. Graduating from Michigan State in 2016 with a B.S. in Landscape Construction and Management, Ben immediately put his knowledge to use and came to work for DBS. Originally starting in the industry as an irrigation technician, Ben has been involved within the industry at various levels and relies upon this experience to ensure his team provides the best service experience to our clients. His favorite motto is “Our competition is us, yesterday.”

Marti has 17 years under her belt working for Designs by Sundown. Between planning company events, managing employee benefits, and processing payroll, Marti is well-versed in the inner workings of the company. Her main goal is to make sure every employee feels safe, content, and appreciated.

Michael Hommel Founder & President

After obtaining a B.A. from Colorado State University, Michael started Designs By Sundown (DBS) in his parents’ garage in 1985 with nothing more than a couple of trucks and a small shop. Now over 35 years later, DBS has grown to be one of the country’s largest residential landscape firms, employing over 300 employees. Michael’s vision for DBS was to offer complete landscape services from award winning design and construction to estate management practices.

Through Michael’s continued leadership, DBS has been presented with numerous awards and accolades on both a local and national basis. This includes winning 64 local Excellence in Landscape awards as well as 54 Environmental Improvement Awards nationally.

Michael is a pillar of the Denver Metropolitan community, where he and DBS have been involved in aiding organizations such as The ACE Foundation (Alliance for Choice in Education), Cancer League of Colorado, Children’s Diabetes Foundation, The Delores Project, Habitat for Humanity, LifeLine.org, Mount Saint Vincent Home, the Tennyson Center for Children and Wounded Warrior.
